#1 - Recycle
Shredded paper never belongs in your home recycling bin. The tiny bits of paper cannot be captured at the facility where recyclables are sorted. Instead, shredded paper mixes with other recyclables and becomes a source of contamination.
Drop-off Events
Elected officials in the area occasionally host free confidential document drop-off events that do not involve OCRRA. Sign up for our email list and visit our events page for announcements. Only confidential documents will be accepted at these events.
Purchasing Shredding Services
Looking for a coupon? Bodow Recycling previously partnered with OCRRA to offer reduced cost confidential shredding. However, Bodow Recycling is permanently closed, as of June 29, 2026 and will no longer provide shredding services.
The following companies may offer shredding services to residents with large amounts of material and businesses:

#2 - Reduce
Shredded paper cannot be placed in your home recycling bin, but full pieces of paper can! You can reduce waste and reduce costs by only shredding documents that are truly confidential.
Are All Your Items Confidential?
Banking or medical information, credit card statements, tax forms and other records containing account numbers qualify as confidential documents.
Items containing only your name and mailing address are NOT considered confidential.
#3 - Dispose
You may put shredded paper in your trash and it will be converted into electricity at the Waste-to-Energy Facility in Jamesville, where our community’s trash generates enough electricity to power 30,000+ homes each year.
