Compost Pick Up and Drop Off
Whether you’re looking for a way to spruce up your landscape or garden, or you want to sustainably dispose of waste and scraps, OCRRA has two compost sites in Onondaga County to help. Residents, landscapers, small-business users and commercial haulers can drop off yard waste and food scraps, as well as purchase high-quality mulch and compost in bulk. Drop-Off Information
Residents who would like to compost food scraps and/or yard waste at one of our sites need to have a site pass.
You’ll have to unload your own materials, and make sure they’re dropped off in the appropriate collection area.
Business users can also drop off materials and buy bulk compost or mulch in one easy trip.
Residential Drop Off Fees
- Compost Site Pass: Unlimited yard and food waste drop-off, plus two bags of Premium Compost: $25 (Order online, download a mail in form or purchase at the site)
- Replacement Compost Site Pass: $10
- Note: All drop-offs using dual-axle trailers will be charged commercial rates.
Amboy Compost Site accepts cash, checks or credit cards.
Jamesville Compost Site accepts cash or checks.
Commercial Drop Off Fees
Amboy and Jamesville Compost Sites:
- Yard waste (pickup truck loads): $20/load
- Yard waste (6-wheel dump truck loads): $50/load
- Yard waste (10-wheel dump truck loads): $50/load
- Yard waste (All trucks 40 cubic yd. or greater): $75/load
Amboy Compost Site only:
- Stumps (48″ or smaller), root balls or oversized wood: $35/ton
- Food waste (contracted, haulers and small business users): $42/ton
- Food waste (60–90-gallon totes): $3/tote
- Food process waste: $30/ton
What is Accepted?
Fruit, beans, bones, bread, brush, coffee grounds, coffee filters, eggs, dairy, fish, garden waste, grains, grass, hay, hedge trimmings, leaves, meat, paper cups, paper napkins, paper towels, pine cones, pine needles, plants, root balls, sod, sticks, straw, stumps (up to 48″ at tree end, not root ball), tea bags, tree limbs, vegetables and vines. Only tree trunks measuring less than 10 feet in length may be accepted at OCRRA Compost Sites.
What is Prohibited?
Blacktop, concrete, diapers, dirt, garbage, glass, landscape fabric, lumber, metal, paper, pet waste, plastic items (including bags), rocks, rubber, soil and Styrofoam. Items longer than 10 feet in length are not accepted at OCRRA’s Compost Sites.
