#1 - Recycle
Cooking oil should never go down the drain. If you have used fats, oil or grease (FOG) leftover from cooking or deep frying you can recycle it for FREE at either of these places:
- Baker Commodities in East Syracuse. Call (315) 458-4901 for more information.
- Metropolitan Syracuse Wastewater Treatment Plant, Syracuse, (315) 435-2260. Personnel are available seven days a week from 9am to 5pm to collect fats, oil or grease. No appointment necessary. Find tips on managing your grease as well.
Businesses looking to dispose of FOG: please search the internet or phone book for a list of “Rendering Companies.”
It is a good idea to amass larger quantities of cooking oil before drop off. If you have very small amounts of cooking oil (less than a quart) you can cool it, seal it in a jar with a screw top lid and place it in your trash.
