Reduce waste and help local families save money this Halloween. The White, Betts and now Mundy Branch Libraries in Syracuse will open their Costume Closets in mid-October to GIVE AWAY the donated costumes they’ve been collecting since last year.
There are two ways to take advantage of this budget and eco-friendly CNY tradition; contribute by dropping off a gently-used costume and/or bring your kids and teens to pick out a costume during the giveaway days. It’s free. A library card is not required. However, children must be present to receive a costume.
Costume Closet Giveaways
White Branch Library: 763 Butternut Street, Syracuse, October 12, all day.
Betts Branch Libary: 4862 S. Salina Street, Syracuse, October 17, from 2-4pm
Mundy Branch Library: 1204 S. Geddes Street, Syracuse, October 24, from 12-4pm
After Halloween, help keep this fun community event going. Costumes, clothing, shoes, sheets and other textiles never belong in your home recycling bin. Putting them in the trash is a waste! Donate them instead! White, Betts and Mundy Libraries will be accepting gently-used costumes throughout the month of November so they can give them away next year.
If you are unable to drop off used costumes at these locations, consider taking them to your local thrift store. Our communities pay for every ton of trash dropped off for processing. Clothing is a major source of waste. Removing Halloween costumes from the waste stream, so they can be reused, helps our community save money and natural resources.
