#1 - Recycle
Only clean and dry aluminum bowls can be placed in a home recycling bin. Plastic and paper takeout containers belong in the trash.
#2 - Reduce
Some restaurants will allow you to take leftovers away in a reusable container that you bring from home. Consider asking the waitress next time you visit your favorite eatery.
#3 - Dispose
Even if they are plastic and have a recycling symbol and number on the bottom, plastic takeout containers are trash.
Most paper takeout containers have a coating or internal treatment that prevents them from leaking, so they are not recyclable.
