#1 - Dispose

To dispose of a broken blue bin at home:

1) Make a “TRASH” sign on a piece of scrap paper,

2) Tape it to your old bin,

3) Place bin on top of or near your trash can (or inside your trash cart).

You can also deliver broken blue bins to OCRRA’s Amboy Compost Site.

Looking for a new blue bin?

Blue bins are no longer the preferred method for collecting curbside recyclables. Most municipalities in Onondaga County are transitioning to covered recycling carts on wheels to reduce litter, hold more recyclables and protect materials from damaging rain and snow.

As of October 1, 2024, new blue bins are no longer being distributed by OCRRA. A plan to slowly phase out the agency’s remaining supplies was announced in 2022, to give municipalities and haulers ample time to explore and implement alternatives.

Residents who hire a private hauler who still uses blue bins (not wheeled carts) after October 1, 2004 can contact the hauler for guidance. If your municipality manages curbside recycling collection or contracts with a hauler on your behalf, contact your municipality’s main office for guidance. Check out this link for details.
