What to do:
Alkaline and other single-use batteries can be dropped off at Staples for recycling, through their free Easy Rewards program. Visit their recycling services page to see a list of acceptable items and find out how to sign up to earn rewards points.
In order to make more room for battery types that are fire risks to our community, OCRRA is no longer accepting alkalines at our battery drop-off locations.
Alkalines may be placed in the trash. They are not considered hazardous waste and are managed as trash across New York State.
Safety tip: 9-volt alkaline batteries should have their terminals taped with clear packing tape before being placed in the trash, to prevent a short circuit.
