Protect your identity and rid your home of confidential documents with ease - attend OCRRA's Shred-o-Rama Event!
WHEN: Saturday, June 2, 2018 (8 am - noon)
WHERE: NYS Fairgrounds - Brown Parking Lot, across the street from Gates 3 & 4 on State Fair Blvd.
WHY: Residents can bring their confidential papers to be shredded at no charge. Five box limit per vehicle. Boxes should be medium-sized and easy to lift (measuring roughly 10" x 12"x 15") to keep attendees and staff safe from lifting injuries.
Assemblyman William Magnarelli, Confidata, Proshred Security, Shred Solvers and Simple Shred are collaborating with OCRRA to help residents prevent identity theft and ensure that their minced paper is recycled. All four are local document shredding companies with mobile shredding vehicles.
While the event is free to Onondaga County residents, attendees are invited to make monetary donations to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, which funds research and support services to those living with muscular dystrophy, ALS and related muscle-debilitating diseases to help them live longer and grow stronger.
Personal records from a household such as medical documents, bank information, tax documents and other items containing account numbers or private details are ideal for drop off. Attendees do not need a reservation and there is no charge, thanks to Confidata, Proshred Security, Shred Solvers and Simple Shred's generous donation of their time and talent.
Participants should do the following
- Bring only confidential documents generated at home (e.g., tax forms, medical documents, bank information, credit card statements, or other items with account numbers). No phonebooks, magazines, newspapers, junk mail, receipts, hanging file folders, binders, photos, photo albums will be accepted. Materials from businesses are not accepted at the event.
- Pack confidential documents loosely, in cardboard boxes (limit 5 banker sized boxes per vehicle). Do not bring items in plastic bags. Remove binders or other non-paper contaminants.
- Enter the Brown Parking Lot of the NYS Fair from State Fair Boulevard, across the street from Gates 3 and 4.
- Stay in their vehicle, but make sure their trunk / back doors are unlocked and easy for staff to open quickly.
