Mercury is a neurotoxin that can harm humans and wildlife. Old medications can devastate our water supply and foster addictions. So, help the environment and our community - drop off your old mercury thermostats, mercury thermometers and medications (over-the-counter andprescription) at the Monday, August 7, 2017 event at OCRRA’s Rock Cut Road Drop-Off Site (5808 Rock Cut Road, Jamesville, NY 13078).
Thanks to the generosity of Covanta, event participants bringing a mercury containing thermostat or thermometer will receive a Lowe's gift card worth $10. Residents dropping off a mercury containing thermometer will also receive a mercury-free (digital) thermometer!* No gift cards will be issued for medication drop off.
Attendees bringing in mercury items must fill out a registration form - in advance - and place it on the dash of their vehicle on the day of the event. Attendees bringing in medication only do not need to complete the form. Needles, broken thermometers, trash and recycling will not be accepted at the event.

Can't make the event?
You can drop off mercury containing thermometers and thermostats year-round at the Rock Cut Road Drop-Off Site, during normal hours of operation, however, the bounty returns to $5 after the August event.
Medications may be disguised (mixed in with coffee grounds or other inedible items) and thrown in the trash. Upon collection they will be delivered to OCRRA's Waste-to-Energy Facility, which is the same end that medication meets when collected at events.
*One gift card per resident, regardless of the number of mercury containing items that are dropped off.
